An Open Letter to Every African Nation and Regional Body: Be the Champion

An Open Letter to Every African Nation and Regional Body: Be the Champion To the governments and peoples of Africa, To the African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, and every institution that carries the dream of a united continent, We write with compassion. We know the weight you carry—colonial scars, fragile economies, external pressures, domestic politics that punish boldness. We know that integration can feel like one more demand on stretched budgets and tired systems. We know trust has been broken. We know the gap between what is signed and what is lived. But we also know this: Africa will not be transformed by waiting for all 55 to move at once. It will be transformed by one country, one region, one leader, one citizen deciding to act—willingly, consistently, and with the spirit of a champion. You are not just a member state. You are a champion state. You are not just a regional body. You are a delivery body. You are not waiting for permission. You are the permission. A Champion’s Call to Every Country Do not wait for perfect consensus. Start where you are. Move first. Move consistently. Fulfill your obligations not because you are forced, but because Africa’s children deserve better. 1. Ratify and domesticate one pending protocol within 12 months. Start with the free movement of people. Let Africans travel, work, trade, and build across your borders. A passport should not be a wall. 2. Protect every African migrant as you would your own citizen. Condemn xenophobia from the highest office. Prosecute violence. Open legal pathways. Remember: your diaspora is your bridge, not your burden. 3. Remove one non-tariff barrier this quarter. Instruct customs. Simplify paperwork. Digitise borders. Publish the results. One barrier removed is one chain broken. 4. Pay your AU and REC dues and levy on time. You cannot demand African solutions while relying on external funding. Finance your own institutions. Own your own destiny. 5. Appoint a Cabinet-level Champion for Integration. Give them a clear mandate, a scorecard, and the power to hold ministries accountable. Integration cannot be a side desk—it must be a national priority. 6. Build one cross-border project with a neighbour. A road, an energy line, a digital corridor, a shared value chain. Start small. Start now. Show that cooperation works. 7. Report publicly every year on what you implemented. Let citizens see the progress. Let them hold you accountable. Transparency is the oxygen of trust. A Champion’s Call to Every Regional Body You are not a talk shop. You are a transformation engine. You must be faster, bolder, and more accountable. · Create a compliance and implementation unit with teeth. Track every decision. Publish a league table of implementation. Name champions. Name laggards. · Reward willing countries with technical support, funding priority, and visibility. Make integration attractive, not burdensome. · Sanction persistent non-compliance—not with punishment alone, but with mediation, capacity support, and clear timelines. · Harmonise and simplify. One border, one system, one standard. End the duplication that exhausts your members. · Open space for civil society, youth, women, and the private sector. They are already integrating Africa below the state level. Let them lead. The Champion’s Creed Say it. Mean it. Live it. I will not wait for all 55. I will move first. I will move with consistency. I will be a champion. I will act with compassion. I will fulfil my obligations not because I am forced, but because Africa’s future depends on me. I will build bridges, not walls. I will protect, not exclude. I will deliver, not delay. The world will not transform Africa. Africa will transform Africa. And it begins with you—today, in your country, in your region, in your own sphere of influence. Be the champion Africa has been waiting for. pub-2701367138878116 GABULA SADAT ED & Co-founder ODPROS & PROPIMS KASANGATI WAKISO UGANDA EAST AFRICA +256 780 958736 mrgabulas@gmail.com tiktok @sadatgabula blog https://gabulasadat.blogspot.com digital ebook store https://payhip.com/gabulasadat
